  • Who Can Apply: U.S. citizens currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs, plus non-enrolled U.S. citizens who will hold a bachelor’s degree by the award start date and do not hold a Ph.D.; arts candidates should have relatively limited professional experience, typically seven years or less.
  • The Focus: Independent study/research or eligible graduate degree enrollment in creative and performing arts in countries offering Fulbright Study/Research grants.
  • The Funding: Country-specific living stipend and health benefits; Post-country grants include round-trip transportation and orientation, while tuition and other benefits vary by award and country.
  • Key Requirements: Project title and abstract, Statement of Grant Purpose, Arts Experience Summary, Arts Portfolio Description, artistic portfolio, host affiliation documentation as required, three recommendations, post-secondary transcripts, language evaluation when required, and short-answer responses.

At-Large applicants (non-enrolled U.S. citizens with bachelor's degree) apply directly. Affiliation with an educational institution or sponsoring entity in the host country is required. Some awards require affiliation letter at application deadline; others allow it to be submitted later. Language proficiency requirements vary by country. Portfolio requirements vary by artistic discipline (Architecture, Creative Writing, Music, Performing Arts, Visual Arts). Applicants must select one specific field of study; interdisciplinary/multi-media is not an option.
