2026 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in Nonfiction Literature

Open to nonfiction literature artists age 25 and older who are current residents of New York State and/or one of the Tribal Nations located therein and who have maintained that residency for the two consecutive years prior to application, this state fellowship supports practitioners working in essays, criticism, journalism, autobiography, memoir, creative nonfiction, monographs, and experimental prose. The program offers a competitive and prestigious unrestricted award that recognizes artistic merit, originality, and clarity of vision rather than underwriting a specific proposed project, positioning fellows within NYFA’s longstanding statewide support structure for artists. Recipients receive an $8,000 unrestricted cash grant, while applicants submit completed manuscript work samples in English along with artist and optional cultural statements for peer-panel review through a three-round evaluation process.
