Who Can Apply: NYC-based fine artists working across a wide range of visual media, with priority given to displaced Gowanus artists.
The Focus: This program provides long-term, affordable studio space to artists to ensure a sustainable creative community in Gowanus. It is a direct result of a Community Benefits Agreement from the Gowanus Rezoning.
The Funding: This is not a funded opportunity; artists rent subsidized studios at a rate of $1.66 per square foot per month.
Key Requirements: Applicants must submit up to 8 work samples and either a CV, a letter from an arts professional, or a statement/biography.

Application notesApplications are accepted on a rolling basis and entered into a lottery system. The lottery algorithm gives priority to displaced Gowanus artists and artists from underrepresented communities. Selected applicants will undergo a brief remote interview focusing on their commitment to their practice and community engagement. Final selection is made by the property owner, who may require additional information like background or credit checks. Applications remain in the lottery pool for future studio openings without the need to reapply.
