Artist Residency Program
Housing: Private bedroom in newly renovated residence one block from studio; includes washer/dryer, internet, shared living space and kitchen
- Who Can Apply: Artists from anywhere whose primary focus is sculpture, with basic English communication skills, able to stay the full two months in Utica, NY.
- The Focus: A two-month sculpture residency in 2028 with 24-hour studio access, peer exchange in a cohort of up to six, technical support, community engagement (Works in Progress receptions) and openness to site-specific work in Utica.
- The Funding: $1,000 cash stipend plus free housing, studio space, tools, basic studio materials and transportation assistance (valued by Sculpture Space at about $10,200 per artist); artists pay for materials, specialized tools and food.
- Key Requirements: SlideRoom application (November 1, 2026 – January 15, 2027): up to 12 images of work from the last five years, a project description, CV/résumé, two references, and a $35 total application cost ($25 administration fee plus $10 SlideRoom fee). Residents donate an agreed artwork to the annual CHAIRity Art Auction.

Application notesApplications are accepted November 1, 2026–January 15, 2027. Blind first-round review is based on up to 12 recent work samples and a project description. A CV/rsum and two references are also required. The total application cost is $35: a $25 administration fee plus a $10 SlideRoom fee. Artists must acknowledge Sculpture Space in later exhibitions/publications and donate a mutually agreed artwork to the annual CHAIRity Art Auction.
