Student Artist in Residence Program — Recology San Francisco
  • Who Can Apply: Students currently enrolled at a local San Francisco Bay Area college or university; must be enrolled both at time of application and for the full duration of residency; must currently live within a one-hour drive of the San Francisco Transfer Station; international students not eligible for 2027 residencies.
  • The Focus: Studio-based residency for student artists to develop work using scavenged materials and professional growth through engagement with a materials-rich environment.
  • The Funding: Studio space (40 ft retrofitted shipping container), access to materials, and exhibition at end of residency; no housing provided.
  • Key Requirements: Attend an on-site tour, complete and submit an online application via SlideRoom with work samples and proposal.

Application notesApplicants must first attend an on-site tour before submitting an application. CCA exception: students originally slated to enroll after CCA's closure in May 2027 remain eligible even if no longer enrolled. Selection by Recology staff and Student Advisory Board composed of former student artists. Three student artists selected annually. Residencies run concurrently with the main professional artist-in-residence program.
