Housing: Accommodation and studio at the Casa de Velázquez (artists accompanied by children get a studio but must live off-site)
- Who Can Apply: Artists aged 18+ (recent graduates or established) with an arts degree or a significant body of work and good French. No nationality criterion, but EU/Schengen nationals must prove affiliation to an artist/author or self-employed scheme, and non-EU nationals need a French work-authorising residence permit or a Schengen work and circulation permit plus artist-author status.
- The Focus: A 12-month creation residency (1 Sept 2027 - 31 Aug 2028) at the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid to develop an artistic project on the Iberian Peninsula; disciplines: drawing, engraving, sculpture, painting, architecture, music composition, choreography, photography, film and video.
- The Funding: Monthly bursary for 12 months (2026-2027 reference: €3,600/month housed, €4,600/month non-housed) plus accommodation/studio at the Casa; a production support fund may also be granted.
- Key Requirements: Online portal, all in French: project (max 5,000 characters), expectations (600 characters) and career fit (600 characters); ID; detailed CV in French (max 3 A4 pages); artist-status/work-permit documents; portfolio PDF (A3 landscape, max 10 pages), 1-2 video links (max 10 min each), 1-2 MP3 files (max 20 MB) and/or up to 10 photos; up to two recommendation letters. Shortlisted candidates interview in French in Paris (week of 5 April 2027).

Application notesApply via the dedicated online portal (candidatures-afm.casadevelazquez.org), which the call page says activates on Monday 19 October 2026 at 12:00 (Madrid time); the portal states the closing date and time as 27 November 2026, 13:00 (Madrid time). Read the 2027-2028 information notice (PDF) first. All documents must be in French or sworn-translated, and artist-status/work-permit documents must cover the whole residency (1 September 2027 - 31 July 2028). Incomplete files get 7 working days to correct. Pre-selection the week of 8 March 2027; interviews in French in Paris (videoconference only for force majeure) the week of 5 April 2027; results mid-April 2027.
