- Who Can Apply: Cultural practitioners who have lived in Canton St. Gallen for at least 12 months, or had their main residence there for at least 12 years in the past.
- The Focus: Funding the research and development (creation) phase of an artistic or historical project.
- The Funding: CHF 20,000 per work grant; 18 grants awarded annually across disciplines.
- Key Requirements: Completed application form; precise details of your canton connection; short biography; project description (max. two A4 pages); short documentation of previous work; additional discipline-specific documents as applicable.

Application notesApplicants must indicate which single field best fits their project; multiple selection is not possible and each application is judged by only one specialist jury (including for interdisciplinary projects). An application for a cantonal work grant excludes a stay in the canton's studio apartment (in Rome or Berlin) in the same year. Film and cultural-participation projects have separate funding instruments. Not supported: training-related projects, PR, tourism or economic-promotion projects, already completed or already funded projects, work commissioned by third parties, and reproduction/dissemination of completed works. The jury meets in March and April, and the award ceremony takes place in June in St. Gallen.
