Housing: On-campus housing with room and board fully covered; 117-acre botanical garden campus with historic buildings and outdoor sculptures. On-campus housing available January, February, March, July, first half of August, second half of October, November and December; off-campus accommodations may be arranged for other months.
  • Who Can Apply: Open to artists, composers, writers, and designers of all career stages
  • The Focus: Art-science residency exploring the interplay between artistic creativity and scientific research; artists work with CSHL's archives, scientists, and resources to develop new projects
  • The Funding: $1,000–$1,500 stipend (based on 1–3 week stay); room and board fully covered on campus
  • Key Requirements: CV or résumé; work sample (up to 10 pages or digital portfolio as single PDF); 2,000-word description of how work engages art and science, including scientific interests and archival collections to be used; preferred residency dates and length of stay

CSHL campus accessible from New York City via Long Island Railroad to Syosset station, then campus shuttle. Artist-in-Residents must present a talk or seminar about work supported by the award for the general public and CSHL scientific community within a year of residency start date. Artist-in-Residence may advise Archives staff in creating and curating Center for Humanities public events, exhibits, and activities.
