  • Who Can Apply: Commercially published authors and illustrators: francophone or working in a language of France worldwide; non-francophone applicants translated and published in French or a language of France and resident in France over five years, with a possible refugee exception.
  • The Focus: Financial support and dedicated time to complete a personal writing or illustration project (comic or children's album) for publication.
  • The Funding: €5,000, €8,000, €15,000 or €30,000 depending on the type requested (découverte, création, année sabbatique); paid in two instalments.
  • Key Requirements: Register by October 26; dossier due October 29 at 23:59. Album: page plan and 2+ finished illustrations; comics: synopsis, script excerpt and 3+ finished pages. Include ID, bank details, motivation/project, CV, bibliography, prior books and applicable publishing contracts.

Application notesCreate the personal CNL portal account by 26 October 2026 (three working days before the dossier deadline); submit by 29 October at 23:59, with no time zone stated. Supply ID, bank details, motivation and detailed project presentation, CV and bibliography; applicable URSSAF exemption certificate and a signed foreign-tax-residence declaration. For a children’s album: storyboard/page plan then at least 2 finished illustrations; for comics: synopsis, script excerpt then at least 3 finished pages. Upload prior books: 1 for découverte, 2 or 3 for création, 3 or 4 for année sabbatique; first-time applicants also upload the eligible prior books’ publishing contracts. For poetry, novels and theatre, a project excerpt is strongly recommended; for essays/non-fiction, supply contents, bibliography, a written chapter and publisher contract or publication-intent letter. Essay découverte applicants without a qualifying book may supply at least 3 substantive articles in paid publications. A sabbatical novel proposal needs 5–6 pages.
