  • Who Can Apply: Individuals or organisations (professional or semi-professional makers) producing a public cultural activity in language and literature, visual and audiovisual art, or performing arts that is accessible to Leeuwarden residents. Activities outside the municipality must help promote Leeuwarden nationally and internationally. Only 2027 activities can currently be applied for.
  • The Focus: Creating or presenting a performance, concert, artwork, exhibition or other cultural production that develops a local maker's talent and/or strengthens Leeuwarden's cultural climate.
  • The Funding: The maker receives up to 50% of the activity costs, max €5,000 per application period and never more than the budget shortfall; the other half must come from other sources (ticket sales, sponsors, funds, own contribution, crowdfunding).
  • Key Requirements: Apply via the municipal subsidy portal (or the PDF form by post or at City Hall) between 6 months and 2 months before the activity starts, with an activity plan (nature, scope, period, location, approach, planning, PR, intended audience) and a balanced, itemised budget showing the amount requested. One application per period (1 Jan–30 Jun and 1 Jul–31 Dec activities).

Application notesApply digitally via the municipal subsidy portal (subsidies.leeuwarden.nl), or download the PDF application form and post it to the municipality or hand it in at City Hall (Oldehoofsterkerkhof 2, 8911 DH Leeuwarden). Applications may be submitted from 6 months up to 2 months before the activity starts and are handled in order of receipt; a decision follows within eight weeks. Excluded: activities already subsidised by the municipality, activities with a profit motive or commercial interest, activities within a course of study, recording albums/singles or videoclips, and organising workshops or courses.
