Application notesApply through the City's online form (hard copies are not accepted); submit a separate application for each project you apply to. All applications are reviewed together after the deadline. Form fields: artist name, full address, email, phone, websites/social media handles (200 characters); Proposal (1,500 characters) covering title of the work, concept description, dimensions, statement of value (the estimated monetary worth of the design) and location preference; Artist statement (1,000 characters). Uploads, each 5 MB maximum: (1) resume or biography including education (gif, jpg, png, doc, docx, pdf or txt); (2) design concept image or sketch with title, size and medium, in JPEG, PNG or PDF: one required, up to six upload fields; (3) digital image of past artworks or installations: one required, three upload fields, and a single PDF may contain as many photos as you like; (4) written authorization from other artists or rights holders, if applicable. Design rules: use the project's Exhibit (1, 2 or 3) as the template and mark the locations you are designing for; keep artwork inside the existing white stop-arm and continental crosswalk lines; patterns must be uniform and repetitive and easy to reproduce with stencils; no 3D or depth illusions, no intricate designs, no text, logos, advertising, traffic symbols, pictographs or directional markings, no copyrighted or trademarked imagery; colors must be non-retroreflective and not bright red, yellow, green or orange. Choose from the Ennis-Flint by PPG TrafficPatterns colors in Exhibit 5: the FAQ points applicants to the Standard Colors list, and also says Standard and Premium colors may both be chosen and the City will consider all options; give the color name only (no code needed); specify Field Gray for any area left without a design. It is recommended to design at least one intersection in a project; you may say you are open to other intersections or to partial selection. No on-site presence is required. By submitting, you grant the City the right to photograph, reproduce and publish the artwork for any purpose without payment, and the form states that the application and attachments become the property of the City. Artist notifications are scheduled for December 18, 2026. Questions: artsandculture@glendaleca.gov.
