Cryptic Nights 2027/28 Open Call
- Who Can Apply: Emerging artists based in Scotland, not in full-time education, working on existing projects that use original sound or music.
- The Focus: Developing an existing project combining original sound or music with performance, installation, screen-based art or technology for presentation at Cryptic Nights.
- The Funding: £800 fee for solo artists / up to £2,000 for groups, plus mentoring, a two-day development residency, documentation, and travel & accommodation for artists outside Scotland's Central Belt.
- Key Requirements: Application form (written, video or audio) with a project description (300 words / 3 minutes), technical requirements, documentation (up to 3 sound/video clips and up to 3 images, maximum 6 minutes of audio/video reviewed), an artist statement (200 words / 2 minutes), and reasons for applying (300 words / 3 minutes); plus a separate confidential inclusion form.

Application notesVideo/audio submission links must remain live until 31 January 2027. Only 6 minutes of audio and video files are reviewed per application; specify time codes if longer. Advice sessions: Wednesday 21 October 2026, 12–1pm in person at the Cryptic office, 5 Florence Street, Glasgow; Tuesday 3 November 2026, 6–7pm online via Zoom (contact Lizzie Urquhart to reserve a slot). Late applications are not accepted unless an extension has been requested for access support. Feedback is only offered to shortlisted artists.
