Assistant Professor of Fine Arts (Painting)

Who Can Apply: Applicants must hold an MFA degree or equivalent and demonstrate excellence in teaching with strong professional accomplishments on national and international levels. Two or more years of teaching experience preferred.
The Focus: Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position leading the painting area, teaching all levels of painting, overseeing facilities, and developing curriculum with emphasis on trans-disciplinary collaboration and engagement with Hartford's urban and global context.
Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits, start-up expense fund, ongoing annual research funds, conference travel funds, and personal studio space.
Key Requirements: Cover letter summarizing qualifications and creative/research interests, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, two sample syllabi of courses taught, 15-20 images of current work in PDF (emphasizing breadth with limited detail shots), 15 images of student work from classes taught in PDF, and contact information for three references.

Application notesPosition is tenure-track. Teaching load is 2/2 for the first two years, then 3/2 thereafter (five courses per year total), with one-semester paid leave every fourth year. Candidate will be head of the painting area and expected to engage with Hartford's diverse urban context and incorporate global perspectives into teaching.
